About Eastpointe Housing Commission

The Eastpointe Housing Commission consists of five (5) members of the Eastpointe community who are appointed by the City Manager. The job of a Housing Commissioner is to ensure compliance with federal, state & local laws, develop & adopt policy, review & approve budgets and nurture positive community relations. In addition, the Housing Board of Commissioners hires the Executive Director who manages the day-to-day operations of the Housing Commission. The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of the Housing Commission. The Eastpointe Housing Commission has played an important role in providing safe, sanitary, affordable housing for the low income residents of the City of Eastpointe since its inception in 1964. Currently, the Housing Commission assists 335 families throughout Macomb & Wayne counties.

The Eastpointe Housing Commission offers two types of rental assistance:
We operate two (2) low-rent housing buildings for elderly persons 50 + and over. In this program, elderly families move into our apartment buildings and pay a reduced rent based on their income. We also administer a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program — which is rental assistance for low income families utilizing private sector rental housing.

Mission Statement

To successfully house that portion of the elderly and near-elderly population that financially cannot afford to own their own home or live the private sector housing.

We hope to achieve this by enhancing the image of public hosing within our community by offering a safe, secure, clean, comfortable environment with compassionate, caring staff, thus creating a rental housing of choice, not necessity.
